Police in Nakuru county have launched investigations into the case of a man who collapsed and died in a Nakuru club after taking alcohol on September 12.

According to police reports, the man arrived at the club as he regularly does and after taking few drinks he started vomiting blood, collapsed and died.

Workers at the joint located at Nakuru City CBD called police officers at 7 PM on Tuesday evening informing them of their customer who had collapsed.

Arriving at the scene, police found the man dead. The officers also found vomit with blood next to the deceased person's body.

Police suspect that the man consumed a drink, and later vomited blood before collapsing.

According to club staff, the man is a regular customer who often visits the club and orders drinks.

''We went there and found the man collapsed, but before he collapsed, it looked like he vomited blood an was dead by the time we arrived at the scene,'' said Martin Wekesa, the Nakuru East Deputy Police Commander.

Police reports indicate that the man may have died from excessive consumption of alcohol while not taking enough food, therefore putting his health at risk.

''He is their regular customer, but when he took a little alcohol, vomited, collapsed and died,'' added the police.

His body was transferred to PNN mortuary in Nakuru where it is awaiting post-mortem examination as police investigations continue to the real cause of his death.

This comes after the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) issued a report on usage of drugs showing that one out of eight Kenyans in the age bracket of 15 to 65 consume alcohol.

NACADA listed various regions that led in terms of alcohol use with the Western region leading with a consumption rate 26.4%,Coast region in second with 13.9% and Central in third with 12.8%.

The report by NACADA also shows that one person  in every 53 Kenyans aged 15 to 65 years, representing a total of 518,807 Kenyans were using bhang.
