Ruto Sacks Uhuru Appointee, Hires Ex-MP

President William Ruto has appointed former Bumula MP Moses Wekesa as the Chairperson of the Non-Governmental Organisation Coordination Board.

According to the Gazette Notice, Ruto revoked the appointment of Gichira Kibaara, who served during the Uhuru Kenyatta administration at the same board Wekesa has been appointed to.  

Interestingly, Wekesa's appointment as the Chairperson of the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) was also revoked. He had served the position for seven months. 

As the chair of the NGO board, Wekesa will serve a period of three years.

On the other hand, Moses Njenga Chege replaced Wekesa as the IRA chairperson. 

Kibaara was appointed by Uhuru to chair the board in 2018 and subsequently reappointed in 2021. 

His appointment came at a time when Uhuru made changes to chairpersons of over 30 state corporations. 

The president also appointed Isha Anand, Bernard Kimutai Maiyo and Bernard Amugune as members of the Pharmacy and Poisons Board. The appointment was effected on September 15, 2023 and will run up to March 5, 2025. 

In other changes, Water CS Alice Wahome revoked the appointment of Johnstone Kang'ethe Kinyua who served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Athi Water Works Development Agency. 

He was, however, re-appointed to serve as a member of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Institute of Primate Research by Health CS Susan Nakhumicha. 

Valentine Khaminwa, daughter to seasoned lawyer John Khaminwa, was also appointed as a member of the Council of the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication, by ICT CS Eliud Owalo. 

Valentine, alongside new appointees John Wambui and Kizito Chesesio, will serve for a period of three years.
