Two people including a Kibabii University student and a police reservist were, on Thursday, killed in a fresh bandit attack in Baringo County.
The incident, which happened at Kiriamet village in Baringo North has paralysed economic activities as residents decry return of insecurity.
The two residents were harvesting honey around 7 pm when the bandits gunned them down. Residents of the area have raised fears and are already fleeing the area as schools shut down
Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi and Baringo North MP Joseph Makilap condemned the attack noting that it threatened peace and stability in the entire county.
The area's chief, Wilson Chelagat, also called on the government to guarantee safety by deploying more police officers.
The bandit attack comes few days after Interior CS Kithure Kindiki assured residents of security, deployment of officers and establishment of more Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) camps in the area.
The CS also swore to end banditry around the country after launching an anti-stock theft camp in Isiolo North Sub-County's Mulango area which has been prone to bandits over the years.
The state has also had to increase measures including deployment of officers, curfews and setting up of camps to address the situation.
Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, on September 13, also issued a 7-day ultimatum to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) officers and chiefs from Marakwet, Pokot and Baringo to deal with insecurity in the region.
Baringo County has been a hotbed of banditry attacks with unending insecurity around the region that has caused loss of lives.
On August, President William Ruto deployed 3,000 police officers to secure Baringo County and supervise the reconstruction of 44 schools in a bid to return normalcy in the county.
