Lesedi Developers Limited founder Geoffrey Kiragu, who is accused of defrauding land buyers of Ksh5.4 million was arrested on Tuesday, immediately after stepping out of Thika Law Courts.

The embattled CEO had appeared before Chief Magistrate Stella Atambo to face 12 counts of land fraud totaling Ksh5.4 million.

When the CEO stepped out of the court buildings after the session, police officers pounced on Kiragu and placed him in handcuffs before transporting him to Thika Police Station, where he is facing other land fraud charges.

Kiragu is currently facing 12 counts of conning Kenyans by selling them land without handing over the requisite documents.

Per the charge sheet produced in court, Kiragu is accused of using his position as CEO to defraud and obtain money from land buyers without the intention to actually hand over the land.

However, the CEO, who is represented by counsel John Khaminwa,  has denied all the charges leveled against him in past court proceedings.

During one of the court sessions, Kiragu denied reports that he had conned Kenyans as widely reported in the press claiming he was experiencing a challenge completing a transaction, where another party was expected to hand over land to him.

Earlier in the year, Kiragu had met with clients in a bid to quell the anger directed towards him, explaining that the company was handling the matter.

This is after some of the reported cases in the media stated that the land buyers bought the pieces of land following an extensive campaign run by the company, but were shocked when they were taken in circles.

"I never had any intention of conning Kenyans. I am the one who took your money to sell land to you," Kiragu explained in January 2023.

"I failed due to the delay from the person I was purchasing from since he had incomplete paperwork that's why we are yet to receive the title deeds. In 45 days I will have issued title deeds."

The reports made headlines following hundreds of land buyers in Thika, Kiambu County accused the company of conning them millions of shillings.
