Coca-Cola Appoints Clifford Machoka as EA Director of Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability

Clifford Machoka, the former Head of External Affairs and Marketing at Nation Media Group (NMG), has been appointed as the Director of Public Affairs, Communications, and Sustainability for the East Africa region at Coca-Cola.

In his new role, Machoka will oversee how the company communicates with the public, manage media relations, ensure sustainable practices, and enhance the company's image and social responsibility.

Machoka confirmed the appointment on his LinkedIn page, expressing gratitude to have been trusted with a senior role at the multinational.

"I'm pleased to announce that I've commenced a new role as Director of Public Affairs, Communications, and Sustainability for East & Central Africa at The Coca-Cola Company."

Prior to this appointment, Machoka worked at the Nation Media Group for 7 years where he served in a similar capacity.

As the Head of External Affairs and Marketing, his responsibilities encompassed spearheading NMG's digital transformation efforts, leading brand and commercial marketing, handling corporate communications, and nurturing partnerships with the company's stakeholders.

Clifford Machoka has over ten years of global experience working with International Organisations, Regional Trade Blocs, Legal, FMCG and Media industries. 

His expertise is in regulatory affairs, government relations, public policy and advocacy, sustainability, strategic communications, media relations, marketing, investor relations, partnership development and stakeholder management. 

He brings on board a broad understanding of the political, socio-economic and business operating environments within East & Central Africa, the Horn of Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands.

He has worked for blue-chip multinational corporations and international organisations among them the World Trade Organisation (WTO), British American Tobacco (BAT) and Nation Media Group. He was also the Head of the 2022 Kenya Presidential Debate Secretariat.

His achievements while at NMG include playing an important role in the Group’s digital transformation most notable, the launch of NMG’s digital brand – Nation.Africa; the growth and relaunch of Taifa Leo Newspaper, establishment of the award-winning pan-African thought leadership forum - Kusi ideas Festival; establishment of the award-winning Nation Leadership Forum and the Nation Media Foundation, as well as heading the 2022 Presidential Debates Secretariat.

Clifford holds a Master’s of Law post-graduate degree (LLM) in Globalisation & Law with a specialisation in International Trade Law from Maastricht University, Netherlands and an undergraduate Honors Law Degree (B.A., LL.B) from NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, India. 

He also holds an Executive Certificate in Business Sustainability Management from Cambridge University and Business Leadership & Strategy from the Fast Forward Leadership Program. 

He is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a member of the Law Society of Kenya and Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Kenyan Chapter.

He joins the Coca-Cola Company from the Nation Media Group (NMG) where he was the Head of External Affairs.
