Police are investigating an incident where siblings were electrocuted to death in a village in Kandara, Muranga County.

According to police sources, the incident happened in Riahiro village, killing 33-year-old Evalyne Waweru and her elder brother Titus Waweru (44).

Their mother, 64,  was hospitalised after sustaining serious injuries as she was trying to help her children.

Police reports show that the younger Waweru was hanging clothes when the incident happened. Her brother heard her call for help not knowing that he could not rescue her with bare hands.

According to the police and witnesses, the hanging line is connected to a power post and the brother's roof.

Their mother saw their bodies burning and rushed to help but was burnt in the process.

When villagers rushed to the scene to help, the siblings had already succumbed to their burns and rushed the mother to a local hospital.

Local police and officials from power utility firm Kenya Power have visited the scene to investigate what could have led to the incident.

Early in the month, the utility firm warned Kenyans not to stay close to power lines, especially during the heavy rains which have affected most parts of the country.

It is still not clear whether a nearby power line fell or the drop line to the brother's house was faulty.

Kenyans have been cautioned to report any faulty power lines to the utility firm to avoid such incidents.

Further, children have been warned not to play under transmission lines.
