A witness in a case involving former Mungiki Leader Maina Njenga on Monday collapsed at the Nakuru Law Courts moments before being called to testify.

The witness, who was on the verge of taking oath and had already been handed a Bible in preparation for their testimony, suddenly fell unconscious.

In response to the unexpected incident, the court proceedings were promptly halted to facilitate the administration of first aid to the witness.

However, the incident was only temporary as the case, which had been ongoing for 5 months, resumed moments after.

While the witness was excused from taking the stand, the prosecution forged on.

It was reported that the witness was Maina Njenga's mother-in-law.

It was not immediately clear if the witness in question would give her testimony at a later time or date.

Maina Njenga was seeking to have a case linking him to the outlawed Mungiki sect dropped.

Maina Njenga was represented at Nakuru Law Courts by lawyer Ndegwa Njiru who has maintained that his client is innocent of the charges levelled against him.

On November 13, during a radio interview,  Maina Njenga exuded confidence that the case would collapse.

He remarked that at the time of arrest, the government was incensed by demonstrations paralysing business operations across the country.

Since then, Njenga has pledged his loyalty to President William Ruto and is on record stating that it is only logical that ODPP withdraws the case.
