A pilot and his two passengers sustained injuries after a chopper they were travelling in crashed in Wajir on Monday.
Reports indicated that the three occupants were headed to Arbajahan within the Northern Kenya County to collect papers written by candidates in the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
Photos of the crash seen by Kenyans.co.ke showed the chopper's fuselage badly damaged and the cockpit disintegrated.
The rotor and its rotary wings, which enable a chopper to lift above ground, were also broken after the crash occurred.
According to North Eastern Regional Commissioner John Otieno, the 3 were taken to the hospital where they received treatment.
It is believed that the crash occurred within the first minute after the chopper took off.
The cause of the crash is yet to be established even as police launched investigations into the incident.
Elsewhere, a police officer who was escorting KCSE examination materials was shot dead in Siaya after he was attacked by unknown assailants.
The officer, accompanied by a colleague and another exam official, was attacked while ferrying exam papers to Mahero Secondary School.
The other officer sustained injuries and was taken to the Siaya Teaching and Referral Hospital where he received treatment.
“The thugs escaped with the officer's firearms; AK47 and MP5. Officers are investigating the crime,” a police report obtained by Kenyans.co.ke read in part.
The police have also launched a manhunt for the assailant who remains at large.
