Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has released the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results.
Speaking at Mtihani House on Thursday, Machogu indicated that over 1.4 million students sat for the national examinations that began on November 30.
Machogu was flanked by PS Belio Kipsang and Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) CEO Dr David Njengere.
In the 2023 examinations, 8,525 candidates scored above 400 marks. The best student attained 428 marks.
Some 352,782 candidates scored between 300 - 399 marks.
On the other hand, 658,278 students scored 200 - 299 marks. Those who scored between 100 - 199 marks were 383,025 candidates.
The CS also pointed out that 2,060 candidates scored less than 100 marks.
In terms of subjects, there was an improvement in English in the 2023 examinations compared to the 2022 results.
Only 2 students were reported to have engaged in examination malpractice.
Machogu also announced that the placement of KCPE candidates in various secondary schools will start on Monday, November 27.
The exercise will be concluded in two weeks.
On the other hand, KNEC CEO David Njengere explained that the KCPE results were prioritised over the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) owing to the placement of the 2024 Form One students.
"The marking of KCPE was prioritised to enable the Ministry to place the students in school on time," he stated.
This was the last KCPE as the country fully transitions to the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC).
