Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers in Vihiga have launched a manhunt for two suspects accused of robbery with violence and alleged sexual assault on two college students.
According to the detectives, the incident which occurred on Thursday at daybreak was reported by the two female students, whose house was broken into in the dead of night by unknown men whom they allege also raped them.
A police report revealed the victims who shared a room at Kamgoi Village were suddenly woken up by two heavily armed men at around 6 am.
According to the victims, the two men who bore pangas and knives threatened to kill them if they raised any alarm.
The suspects then proceeded to take the victims' mobile phones after which they forced the students out to a nearby forest where they assaulted and abandoned them.
Following the ordeal, the victims rushed to a nearby police station where they recorded a statement on the alleged incident.
"As the victims get medical assistance at a local hospital, crucial leads are being followed to hunt down the suspects," read a statement issued by the DCI.
In a similar incident three weeks ago, detectives managed to arrest one suspect linked to a ring accused of gang-raping a Member of the County Assembly and a County Executive Committee (CEC) member in Nyamira County.
A high school principal and a police officer were also among the victims in the incident which occurred on October 23.
"After subduing the victims with beatings and death threats, members of the gang who were armed with a pistol, machetes, and other crude weapons forced themselves into three of the women in turns, before escaping with their loot," read a DCI statement.
Police revealed that the gang initially staged a siege at a homestead for several hours before committing the heinous act.
Besides this, the gang also stole several mobile phones and cash amounting to Ksh130,000.
