King Charles III and Queen Camila were hosted at a lavish family home in Vipingo Ridge in Kilifi County during their State Visit to the Kenyan Coast.

Dutch Designer Erwine Overkamp, who designed the villa in 2016, in an interview with Africa News on November 26, revealed that the royals stayed at the property for less than 24 hours before departing Kenya.

He indicated that the house, located in the posh Kilifi estate, was chosen because of its location and security.

Overkamp intimated that the villa has a fully bulletproof master bedroom hence its preference among royals, presidents and other dignitaries.

In total, the villa has five bedrooms which are spread throughout the house.

"I think they chose this location because of security, privacy and nature. On some level, we can actually host the royals here. We have got all the facilities at this house.

"We have got a fantastic master bedroom upstairs which is fully bulletproof," he stated

The Dutch designer also divulged that the house design is incorporated with climate technology given that the 750-square-meter villa is fully run by solar power.

The interior designs and artefacts of the house also match is climate theme.

Overkamp explained that this could have influenced the decision of the royals to stay at the villa given King Charles III's involvement in environmental conservation initiatives.

"His majesty complimented me on how beautiful the architecture was. It is eco-friendly and we run this house fully on solar.
They had less than 24 hours and they enjoyed themselves," he stated.

One of the other standout features of the property is the vast pool in between the floor plan, offering the guest ambience to relax during the hot weather season.

The house was sold to the late Chris Kirubi in 2016 after its completion.
