Five people have been arrested in connection with a robbery in which goods worth Ksh5.4 million were stolen and a driver assaulted.
The arrest was made during a multi-agency security operation led by the National Police Service in Embu County on Tuesday, September 16.
The victim, a company driver, was transporting a consignment of basic hygiene products, including boxes of toothpaste, toothbrushes, detergents and fabric softeners, when the robbers attacked and made away with the goods.
Following a police tip-off, however, the officers raided the suspects' hideout in Mutunduri and recovered all the stolen items, still in hundreds of boxes.
The two vehicles, suspected to have been used to transport the stolen goods, were also impounded as exhibits.
The five suspects are still in police custody, awaiting arraignment.
In a statement following the arrests, the NPS lauded officers involved in the arrest and the members of the public, encouraging them to keep tipping off the authorities on crimes they witness.
"The National Police Service commends the swift coordination of the officers involved and urges the public to continue sharing information to aid the fight against crime," the statement read.
In images shared by NPS, boxes of the products were seen piled up inside and outside a store building.
Earlier this year, two individuals were suspected of stealing goods worth Ksh17.6 million in a heist at a warehouse in Embakasi.
In a statement of April 23, DCI revealed that the robbery took place on Easter Sunday, April 20, at Atlantic Business Park, where two go-downs were broken and several gadgets, including televisions and CCTV servers, were looted.
In a subsequent investigation by the detectives, the goods were recovered their hideout in the Ruai and the two suspects were later apprehended at a resort in Ruai.
