The Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) Chairman Irungu Nyakera on Sunday, January 7, regretted that many Kenya Kwanza politicians were neglecting President William Ruto.
Nyakera remarked that the neglect was leaving the President exposed to attacks and criticism from the opposition.
The Ruto appointee noted that the Kenya Kwanza administration was carrying out good reforms that will soon start bearing fruits.
“However, we never quite see anyone communicating these achievements, giving the opposition a field day as they focus on the areas the government is failing,” Nyakera complained.
Giving his reasons why Ruto was not receiving support from Kenya Kwanza, firstly, he attributed to politicians who had been rewarded plum positions in the government.
The KEMSA chair remarked that Ruto’s loyalists who were awarded seats in the executive and other state jobs had become comfortable and did not see the need to continue defending the President.
Nyakera noted that there was a second group who were rewarded but dissatisfied with the positions given.
They feel the posts given do not match the efforts they put in 2022 campaigns and as such have decided to keep quiet as Ruto faces an onslaught from the opposition.
Thirdly, Nyakera noted that there was a group of Kenya Kwanza politicians who supported Ruto but were quickly forgotten after the September 2022 victory.
This lot has since decided to keep quiet as they feel shortchanged by the Head of State.
Apart from politicians, this group also consists of media personalities and bloggers who used to campaign for the President.
“The elected leaders feel the government is not as popular as it was during elections and for that reason they prefer to stay away from publicly endorsing government agenda,” Nyakera spoke of the last reason Ruto is not being defended by his team.
In the past, cabinet secretaries including Kipchumba Murkomen (Transport), Davis Chirchir (Energy), and Peninah Malonza (Tourism) were booed while speaking of the President’s development agenda.
