Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga on Wednesday escalated his political tiff with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as the simmering tensions between the two Mt Kenya politicians hit a crescendo.

Speaking during an interview with Inooro FM, Njenga emphasised that if Ndindi Nyoro runs for the presidency in 2032, the region would back his bid.

Njenga noted that it was high time for a president to emerge from Murang'a County adding the Kiharu MP would be an excellent pick for the top seat.

"We do not refute that Gachagua is the senior leader in the region. However we can not fail to listen to their voices here, Gachagua cannot work alone," he stated.

Additionally, he dismissed the argument that it was too early for Nyoro to start campaigning for 2032. In Njenga's view, the time is ripe to lay the groundwork to allow the youthful MP to marshall enough support to succeed President William Ruto.

Njenga described Nyoro as an ambitious politician, asking those blocking his political growth to stop. He also called upon Mt Kenya leaders to unite and speak in unison to avoid diving the region further.

"I have no problem with the DP, let him do his job and we will do ours. All I can say is one person can not run the country," he remarked.

Njenga also called upon other politicians to carry out their roles as mandated by the Constitution before the next election.

Meanwhile, he also castigated senior government officials who have linked him to illegal activities in the Mt. Kenya region.

During the interview, Njenga complained that he was being accused of secretly reviving the Mungiki sect with the intention of wreaking havoc, allegations which he refuted.

Njenga categorically stated that he ceased being the group's leader in 2020 and if anyone else had taken up the role he was unaware of it.

"This is propaganda and it's only emanating from a few people. These are people trying to cause chaos and sell fear to the people," he stated.

Meanwhile DP Gachagua on Monday criticised the leaders fronting Ndindi Nyoro as President William Ruto's successor dismissing the talk as premature and an affront to the current Head of State's plans to turn around Kenya's economy.
