Residents of Nyeri woke up to tragic news on Sunday after a middle-aged woman was found dead inside a water tank a few days after she was reported missing.
The lady in question at one point received help from Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga to rebuild her home after a photo of her dilapidated house went viral in August 2020. The county chief in a kind gesture facilitated the reconstruction of the house which was completed in November of the same year.
In a sad turn of events, the lady has now passed away. By the time of publishing this story, it was not immediately clear what caused the death and the circumstances surrounding her demise.
"I have implored the police to investigate this matter with the urgency and seriousness it deserves," Governor Kahiga said in a statement.
Nyeri residents described her as a jovial person who lived in harmony with her neighbours.
When the photos of the deceased's dilapidated mud house went viral in 2020, well-wishers, touched by her plight lined up to offer assistance. Some offered to connect her house to electricity, a section donated foodstuffs while others gave varying forms of support.
Well-wishers also gifted her a dairy goat to allow her family to earn a living. The road leading to her house was also upgraded.
"Truly, her family's life has been transformed," Governor Kahiga stated at the time.
Kenyans have now called upon the police to investigate the murder and apprehend the culprits.
The deceased has left behind five children.
Elsewhere, a female trader who also lit up the internet in 2021 passed away on Saturday after she collapsed at a funeral and died on the spot.
The lady cracked up Kenyans during a media interview where she was commenting on the rising cost of living including the prices of basic commodities such as tomatoes.
What made the lady trend was her broken English where she was captured using phrases like 'It is very badly by the way' and 'I don't know what I shall can do'.
