Foreign Affairs and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi on Sunday pointed fingers at the press for what he described as manufacturing Kenya's strained relationship with its neighbours.
Speaking in Busia County, Mudavadi refuted the claims that Kenya has an uneasy relationship with neighbouring East African countries, dismissing the stance as pure speculation.
"I ask the media to stop making up the 'wrangles', there is no problem with our neighbours as far as Kenya is concerned," he stated.
Mudavadi explained that President William Ruto was working to strengthen Kenya's diplomatic policies and geopolitical influence regionally and on a global scale.
He added that Ruto was bringing peace to warring neighbouring countries such as Sudan.
Mudavadi elaborated that any friction in neighbouring countries would affect the operations in Kenya emphasising the need for Ruto to continue his role as mediator.
The CS emphasised that any matter that may arise will be dealt with diplomatically. He urged the media and other leaders to avoid spreading misinformation.
"This is a key message to caution those spreading misinformation. We rely on you so that the country continues to be unified," he remarked.
He further urged the leaders to join hands with President Ruto to ensure Kenyans benefit from development projects. The Prime CS informed the leaders that the campaign season was over and all elected individuals should work for the people.
Kenya's Relationship With Neighbours
Over the past few months, there have been some instances that have prompted politicians and Kenyans, in general, to speculate that the nation, under the Kenya Kwanza regime, has developed a strained relationship with its neighbours.
During the last Jamhuri Day, the failure of regional leaders to grace the occasion raised eyebrows. Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu and her Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni were a no-show at the celebrations.
President Ruto responded by assuring the country that Kenya's relationship with the EAC community was intact.
Another instance that raised questions was when Tanzania banned passenger flights from Nairobi to Dar es Salaam.
Additionally. Uganda also stopped importing oil through Kenya. The Ugandan government further sued Kenya at the East Africa Court of Justice over the issue.
