Mwanabule Ahmed Mohamed popularly known by her nickname Dr. Bule, is a calm, ambitious, and hard-working woman who rose from humble beginnings to become the first female surgeon in Mombasa County.

Bule who hails from Faza Island in Lamu, was catapulted to success by her supportive parents who never went to school themselves but did everything in their capacity to ensure they educated her to become a surgeon.

"Thankfully, they offered me that opportunity. They took me to Faza Primary School where my hardworking teacher Mr. Kulumba served as an inspiration throughout my primary school life," Mwabule narrated in a social media post.

After completing her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), Mwabule was called upto Mpeketoni Secondary School, but she was unwilling to join the school located in Mpeketoni because it was far from home.

"Timid girl. I went to Lamu Girls Secondary School instead," Mwabule disclosed.

Despite shifting secondary schools, Bule disclosed she was unable to put up with the boarding life and opted out just after a year and went back home.

"So timid, I know. I later completed my high school education at Faza Secondary School in 1998."

Ambitious to achieve her dream of becoming a medical doctor, Bule joined Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in Nakuru in 2000 and completed her education at the institution within one year, that is in 2003.

"That was the beginning of this timid girl coming out of her shell. I believe I can be more than a clinician," she narrated.

In the never-ending vision to become a clinician, she joined Kampala International University in 2004 to study Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery MBChB and graduated after 6 years.

"I became an intern at the then Coast Provincial General Hospital (CPGH) and later rose to a Medical Officer in 2012. The timid girl was now out of her comfort zone and raring to go,” Bule narrated.

She later joined Moi University and came back in 2021 as a General Surgeon.

"The first-ever female surgeon in Mombasa County. Female Surgeon 001. Currently, I serve at the Coast General Teaching & Referral Hospital (CGTRH) and Likoni Sub County Hospital (Manyatta)," Mwabule remarked, disclosing her memorable journey to becoming the first female surgeon in Mombasa.

"Look, a timid island girl has become a surgical sensation. A woman of resolute character, who could no longer be frightened by the struggle. Hatched from the nests of Rasini (Lamu), I gradually learned how to stand on my feet and search for greatness."

According to Mwabule, her story proves that greatness is an open invitation. She notes that the journey was not just about breaking barriers but one to create waves.

"Ever since I have never looked back. Never stopped pursuing my dreams. Why not you? All you need to do is to smash that timid shell. Today. Now"
