Chaos erupted on Friday following an altercation between a security guard and a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) driver along Ngong Road.
In a video circulating on social media, the security guards belonging to a local company collided with the PSV in the opposite lane, disrupting traffic along the busy road.
This led to an altercation between the matatu driver and the security guard as they exchanged words over the incident.
Irate, one of the guards stepped out of the vehicle and approached the driver while holding a baton.
Moments later, the guard threw the weapon at the driver, shattering the window in the process. In a split second, the PSV driver accelerated the vehicle in an attempt to evade the confrontation.
Motorists plying the route were forced to stop and park on the road as the scenes unfolded.
This highlighted the disorderly state of the matatu sector, with previous cases prompting Kenyans to urge the government to intervene to restore sanity.
The assault comes barely a week after a group of bodaboda stoned the car of a female driver and her co-driver on a highway on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kitengela area on January 18, 2024.
Bodaboda riders plying the route had accused the woman of leaving injuries in her wake in which one police report indicated that she had hit a motorcycle heading towards Kitengela from Athiriver.
In another report, she had hit a pedestrian aged 32 years injuring him on the left leg below the knee and his son aged four years then sped off.
Following the incident, the Kitengela Officer Commanding Police Station conducted a raid to arrest bodaboda riders.
The OCS was offered backup by the DCI personnel on the evening of January 19, which successfully led to the arrest of the 20 suspects.
