Police Raid Kitengela, Arrest 20 Boda Riders for Assault of Female Driver

20 boda boda riders accused of stoning a female driver in Kitengela were on Friday evening arrested during a police raid. 

A police report obtained by Kenyans.co.ke on Saturday morning indicated that the operation was spearheaded by the Kitengela Officer Commanding Police Station.

The OCS was offered backup by personnel from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). 

"The above operation was conducted today January 19, 2024, by the OCS Kitengela, DCI Personnel and a team of officers, in response to an incident that occurred within Kitengela township on January 18, 2024, reported vide OB 98/18/01/2024," read the report in part.

"Twenty persons have been arrested and twenty-six motorbikes detained at the police station."

According to the police, the individuals will be charged with the offence of malicious damage to property and assault.

On Thursday, a group of police officers confronted boda boda riders who had unleashed war on the female driver and her co-driver, accusing her of leaving a trail of injuries in her wake. The incident occurred in Kitengela, on the outskirts of Nairobi, at around 6:10 pm.

A subsequent police report indicated that the vehicle had hit a motorcycle heading towards Kitengela from Athiriver carrying one pillion passengers. The passenger sustained an injury on his lower right leg, left forehead and backhead.

The driver then sped off towards Namanga through the Arusha Service Lane and hit a pedestrian aged 32 years injuring him on the left leg below the knee and his son aged four years who complained of chest pains. 

Later, the driver reportedly knocked down another motorcycle while fleeing on Old Namanga Road. The motorcycle's pillion passenger, who was expectant, injured her left leg and incurred bruises on both her hands.

The driver then hit a pedestrian shortly after injuring him on the right leg and right shoulder.

"She then drove through Tarmac Road, exiting the Shell Petrol Station at Enkare, where the vehicle was blocked by rowdy Boda Boda riders. The vehicle was extensively damaged with stones and was towed to Kitengela Police Station awaiting inspection," added the report.

Boda riders beat her co-driver who sustained injuries on the upper lip, two broken front teeth, and bruises on his forehead. The driver, who was not injured by the riders, was taken into police custody.
