Mombasa governor, Abdulswamad Nassir on Friday, February 2, waived all Mombasa residential parking area fees.
Nassir stated that the move was long overdue to help residents cope with the high cost of living.
"In response to the rising cost of living, the approved Finance Bill 2024 gives relief to residents by waiving parking fees in residential areas as well as reducing clamping fees,"
"Moreover, towards tackling the rising cost of food, inspection fees for chicks and other poultry products have been waived," Nassir stated.
The inspection fee is applied to all poultry products sold in Mombasa County's butcheries and retail outlets.
Nassir waived the fees after the county executive committee approved the county's budget for the 2024 financial year during a meeting with his officers.
This comes at a time when the governor also approved the collective bargaining agreement for the county workers, in line with the Kenya County Government Workers Union.
He clarified that moving forward, all the county workers' salaries will be forwarded to the salaries and remuneration commission for approval.
This waiver follows a month-long penalty waiver land rates for all landowners that were imposed in December 2023.
On December 13, Nassir announced a 100 per cent waiver of penalties on land rates for all of Mombasa County.
He urged landowners to take advantage of the land waiver, as they currently owe the Mombasa government over Sh3 billion in unpaid land rates and interests dating back to 2018.
"The waiver takes effect immediately until the end of December. I hope land owners will take advantage of this so that come next year they will not have to pay penalties regarding the same," said Nassir.
