Kenya to Fly Flag Half Mast Following Death of Namibian President Hage Geingob

President William Ruto on Sunday, February 4, announced that Kenya would fly flags half mast following the death of Namibian President Hage Geingob.

Speaking in Kakamega County, Ruto revealed that State officials were planning on the dates when Kenya would start the mourning period. 

Before making the announcement, Ruto had led the country in observing a one-minute silence in honour of the late Geingob. 

The Namibian President breathed his last on February 4, while receiving treatment at Pohamba Hospital in the nation’s capital Windhoek.

According to communication from the Namibian Presidency, Geingob died surrounded by his wife and children. 

Reports indicated that the late President had succumbed to cancer. 

In a statement following news of his demise, Ruto remembered him as a distinguished leader who served the people of Namibia with focus and dedication. 

“He was a believer of a unified Africa and strongly promoted the continent’s voice and visibility in the global arena,” Ruto eulogised. 

In his condolence message, Ruto wished the people of Namibia for God’s strength and courage during this difficult period.

Hage Geingob was also mourned by Azimio leader Raila Odinga who remarked that Africa had lost a true pan-Africanist.

“His legacy as a beacon of the liberation struggle and architect of Namibia's constitution will forever echo in the hearts of his people and across Africa,” the former Prime Minister remembered Geingob. 

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta also remembered Geingob great leader who contributed immensely to the liberation of Namibia.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, the Government and the people of Namibia during this difficult time of grieving and loss,” Uhuru remarked.
