Omtatah, however, could not be reached by the time of publishing this article.

Narrating the horrific incident, the Senator explained that he swerved after realizing the trailer had lost control, noting that he was lucky to have narrowly escaped death.

Omtatah further stated that the safety belt held him intact on the chair thus protecting him from getting injured. However, the vehicle landed on the side of the road intact.

The driver of the trailer upon questioning stated that the brakes failed to function, forcing him to swerve from the main road, crashing into the senator's vehicle.

Reports indicated that officers from Maseno Police Station processed the scene and launched investigations into the accident.

Omtatah further confirmed that he was able to head home after the police officers provided him with a land cruiser.

A report from the National Transport and Safety Authority(NTSA) indicated that the most unsafe and deadly time to travel on Kenyan roads was between 7-9 pm, noting that 1,100 fatalities were recorded during this window.

The data further showed that 563 people lost their lives to road accidents between January 1 and February 11, 2024, with pedestrians accounting for the highest number at 216 deaths.
