Two armed robbers were on Sunday nabbed with Ksh520,000 in cash during an operation by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The authority told the press that the two, who were escaping, were intercepted in Moyale, Marsabit County, in possession of a pistol.
DCI explained that the money was denominated in two currencies: Ksh83,000 in Kenyan Shillings and an equivalent of Ksh436,000 in Ethiopian Birr.
"The arrested suspects were intercepted within the Sessi area of Moyale, and upon search, Ksh 83,000 and 169,995 Ethiopian Birr believed to have been robbed was found on them," read the statement in part.
"The two and the motorcycle they were using were detained at Moyale Police Station pending collection to TOCU (International Crime Unit) offices in Nairobi."
The same operation also nabbed two other suspects in a botched robbery at the Hilo mining site in Moyale.
The two were in possession of a rifle loaded with six live rounds seized by the officer commanding Dabel station.
"The two suspects were cornered at a shop within Hilo Gold mine after the shopkeeper made a distress call," added the statement.
The suspects are expected to be arraigned in court on Monday and face several charges each.
Suspects facing robbery with violence charges, if found guilty, face up to a death sentence as well as prison terms of more than 14 years.
The Kenyan Constitution, however, demands that petitioners must prove beyond reasonable doubt that theft and the use of or threat to use actual violence occurred.
Cases of armed robbery have been on the rise as the cost of living continues to bite.
