Andrew Ngirici, husband to former Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Ngirici, is seeking justice after he allegedly lost Ksh1.5 million to suspected land fraudsters.

While addressing the media outside Baricho Law Courts, Kirinyaga on Wednesday, Ngirici claimed that he entered into a land transaction deal with two Nairobi-based businessmen who had convinced him to purchase a parcel of land in Rukanga, Kirinyaga County.

He highlighted that the deal turned sour when the two businessmen stopped communicating after receiving the cash, compelling Ngirici to report the two suspects to the police.

Ngirici emphasised that the suspects were apprehended and brought before the court, eight years after he was deceived.

"We are here today in court to witness justice after these fraudsters conned many unsuspected victims. In the past, a lot of people have taken them to court but they end up getting out scott-free and continue with the vice," Ngirici stated.

He added that the court should set the precedence on such cases by instilling the most severe punishment on the two suspects to serve as a lesson to other scammers.

"Those who are victims should know that the suspects' end of the road has come. It will not happen," he added.

The businessman pointed out that such conmen are fond of bribing their way out of court matters, pointing an accusing finger at corrupt lawyers.

"People have been saying that it's the courts that are corrupt, I disagree. It is the lawyers who are corrupt. That's why they keep on striking and resume work after receiving bribes."

"We have filed affidavits to ensure that those who are in cahoots with the suspects are arrested and charged."

While reading out the charges, Judge Stephen Nyaga pointed out that the two suspects were accused of conducting the deal despite knowing that they weren't in a position to sell the land.

The two suspects denied the charges and were released on Ksh200,000 bond each. They were directed to appear in court for trial proceedings on June 12, 2024.
