Traffic came to a standstill along Waiyaki Way in Westlands, Nairobi on Monday evening after a lorry crashed into a traffic island separating two lanes along the road.
It is reported that the lorry which ferries construction workers from Westlands to Kangemi veered off the road near the Expressway Exit, hitting the median barrier.
Eyewitness reports indicate that several people may have sustained injuries after being strewn on the busy road after the lorry rolled over.
However, paramedics arrived at the scene and worked quickly to administer first aid to those affected.
Motorists who frequently use the stretch were advised to use alternative routes following a heavy snarl-up leading up to the Nairobi City Centre.
Several individuals are also feared dead owing to the severity of the accident.
Motorists who ply the route have, however, lamented over the incident indicating that the lorries which ferry the construction workers are often overloaded.
Additionally, they have noted that the passengers hang dangerously on the lorry, making the mode of transport dangerous.
However, the Kenya Red Cross and other emergency responders are yet to speak on the evening incident.
Images seen by Kenyans.co.ke have also shown that towing services had also arrived at the scene and were working to restore order in the area.
Law enforcement officers were also yet to confirm the incident and the number of casualties recorded from the accident.
In a previous incident reported on February 24, three cars collided along Thika Road at the GSU flyover, leading to passengers being trapped in the wreckage.
Multiple people have lost their lives through road accidents this year causing uproar amongst Kenyans over failure to properly enforce road safety regulations.
