Business and transport activities were halted on Thursday, March 7, morning, as a fire broke out in Diani streets.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, a source located within the area confirmed that the fire is said to have started in a hardware store located at Diani Kona Road.

Reports from the residents are attributing the cause of the fire to faulty electric lines in the area, however, these reports are yet to be confirmed officially.

However, it was also reported that the firefighters arrived at the scene and prevented the fire from spreading to more businesses along the street.

It has also been confirmed that no casualties or fatalities were reported in the morning incident.

The business owners have decried major losses from the fire, seeing that property of unknown value was destroyed in the fire.

Motorists were advised to use alternative routes to allow the firefighters to combat the inferno from ravaging more businesses.

“All road users to Ukunda kindly use the access road through Lotfa Hotel to join the highway at Mvindeni or The one opposite Bahari dhow to join the highway near Shell petrol station to allow fire engines to fight the inferno,” read a statement online.

In a separate incident within the Kware area of Embakasi, it is reported that a family escaped unscathed after a gas cylinder exploded while they were cooking.

Residents of the area successfully contained the fire, with the family of three managing to leave the home.

A probe has since been launched to investigate the circumstances behind the Wednesday night incident.

The fire was reported a few days after another fire occurred in the Embakasi constituency razing a children’s home in the area.
