President William Ruto has directed his Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to hold meetings with elders in Narok over the prevalence of insecurity cases.
Speaking at a thanksgiving ceremony in Kirlgoris, Narok, on Sunday, the Head of State admitted that insecurity cases had emerged despite setting up a police station to rein in land cartels and solve land issues.
He revealed that soon after the station was set up, insecurity cases subsided but he noticed that the vice was on the rebound in recent weeks.
As a result, Kindiki is expected to organise a meeting to ensure that elders in the area arrive at a solution guaranteeing peace for residents.
"Matters of security are important. 30 acres in these areas cannot be a thing that causes deaths. Citizens are struggling. Women become single mothers and men disappear.
"When I got the news, I ordered police to set up a police station in the area and the case was solved. I will send CS Kindiki to hold a meeting with leaders here," stated the Head of State.
"Some issues can be solved by elders sitting down. We as the government shall ensure that property and lives are protected," he added.
In recent months, the Interior Cabinet Secretary has been on a mission to restore peace across the country cutting across Mombasa drug dens to banditry in Rift Valley.
On February 29, the CS met leaders from Baringo County during which he promised to engage and review emerging security challenges.
The leaders included Benjamin Cheboi, Senator William Cheptumo, Woman Representative Florence Jematiah, MPs Joseph Makilap (Baringo North) and William Kamket (Tiaty).
Musa Sirma (Eldama Ravine), Joshua Kandie (Baringo Central), Charles Kamuren (Baringo South), Reuben Kiborek (Mogotio) and Bishop Jackson Kosgey (Nominated).
Two days ago, the CS also ordered a security operation in the Kom mining area in Isiolo County after insecurity cases surged.
“I want to order the regional security committee to go to Kom on Monday and assess if the area is safe and report by Tuesday if found not safe it should be closed down as we have closed down Dabel in Marsabit County,” he stated.
“Some of the people there were reported foreigners from the neighbouring Ethiopia country others were criminals and others drug peddlers so we had to close it."
