Saboti Member of Parliament, Caleb Amisi has rubbished claims of having taken loans from a diplomat worth Ksh7.9 Million (USD 60,300).
Speculation flying around on social media alleged that the legislator was sued for defaulting on loan payments advanced to him by the diplomat to facilitate campaigns.
However, the MP through a statement posted on X, refuted the claims insisting that he had not taken any loans from the diplomat as alleged.
Amisi has also claimed that the allegations are in bad faith and geared at sabotaging his political career.
He further referred to the diplomat as part of a cartel out to frustrate him.
“Very funny. If you think using cartels masquerading as a diplomat can silence my resolve for liberation, you are in for a big shock,” Amisi stated.
The diplomat in a lawsuit had claimed that he had wired the money to the politician on various occasions after they became friends.
The diplomat in question claimed that he met the politician during an IGAD Summit in Djibouti where they became acquainted.
He further explained that upon the MP’s request, he disbursed funds to aid in funding campaigns to propel the politician to Parliament in the 2022 elections.
Additionally, court documents show that the diplomat claimed to have sent a sum of Ksh500,000 in the initial instalment sent in January 2022.
He later claimed to have sent approximately Ksh6 Million (USD 50,000) in April 2002 and a final amount of Ksh1.3 Million (USD 10,300) in September 2022.
However, it was also alleged that the MP paid a sum of Ksh500,000 when the diplomat threatened to take legal action over failure to pay the said amounts.
