Officers from the National Police Service (NPS) in Mombasa have apprehended a suspected drug dealer in the Kisauni area.

The arrest took place on Saturday morning, during which drugs believed to be heroin, with an estimated market value of Ksh507,540, were seized from the scene.

Additionally, authorities recovered Ksh1.3 million, 3.6 thousand dollars, and four mobile phones, all of which were taken as evidence.

The operation, which was jointly conducted by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Anti-Narcotics teams, followed intelligence gathered from a member of the public.

The Coast Region counterparts joining the joint operation led the team to the scene, where the drug dealer was arrested and locked in following investigations to flash out his co-operatives.

“The National Police Service takes this opportunity to thank members of the public who partnered with the Police on this matter,” the NPS report read in part.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during a visit to the coast region gave stern directives to area police, to flash out drug dealers ruining the lives of youths in Mombasa.

He further promised to arrest all the drug barons in the area to clean up the city from drug business.

Speaking during fundraising in Malindi, the DP noted that some politicians and businessmen are behind the drug trade at the coast.

"I want to tell the barons who are filthy rich, some of whom are politicians and businessmen and have made billions of shillings from selling drugs, that God will punish them.

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir on March 2 took a swipe at DP Gachagua, for failing to arrest the drug lords and operatives in the coastal region.

"We do not have intelligence. Don't come here and cheat us every time by telling us that you will arrest them. Arrest them. Every time you keep talking about the former regime," Abdulswamad stated.
