Ababu Namwamba Accuses NASA of Using Labour Party of Kenya's Symbol

Budalangi Member of Parliament Ababu Namwamba  has accused the National Super Alliance (NASA) of illegally using his new party's symbol.

Namwamba on Tuesday claimed that the Labour Party of Kenya, where he is the party leader, had already reserved the star symbol with the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties.

The Budalangi MP now wants NASA barred from using the symbol and has registered a formal complaint with the Registrar of Political Parties against the opposition coalition.

The dispute over the star symbol comes just a week after a non-governmental organisation, Northern Advocacy for Sustainable Agriculture, asked a court to stop NASA from using the acronym.

In a sworn affidavit, the organization's chairman, Mr Martin Nkari, submitted that since NASA came into being, most donors had withdrawn support.

Meanwhile, Mr Namwamba, who had a highly-publicised fall out with the ODM Party, strongly condemned NASA's recent upheavals especially those involving Raila and Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho.

Namwamba bashed Raila's plan to have a parallel tallying centre, emphasising that the ODM party leader had no authority to do so.

"The role of tallying presidential votes is that of the IEBC, and not anyone else’s," Namwamba emphasised.

He was also keen to urge law enforcement authorities and party officials to punish politicians who instigate violence during political rallies. He especially criticised the Migori chaos in which Governor Joho's bodyguard was shot and several others injured after a clash between supporters of Suna East MP Junet Mohamed and those of Governor Okoth Obado.

"We condemn the political violence and urge the concerned political parties and the law enforcement agencies to deal with the culprits," the politician urged.

The Labour Party leader also unveiled the party's Elections Board and Appeals Board members during the media briefing.
