Alarm As Mysterious Men Stalk Students With Albinism In Eldoret

Residents of Ilula, in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County have raised alarm over the sightings of mysterious men reportedly wandering around a school accommodating children with albinism.

Ilula primary school head teacher says that the men have been seen on several occasions peeping over the school's fence.

The Star reports that the head teacher, Jacob Ngeno, along with local residents believe the men have ill motives towards the students.

The men are allegedly from Tanzania, looking for albinos to be used for witch craft.

In some countries, especially African countries, albinos are thought to possess black magic.

Over the years, superstitions have fed myths that albinos are ghosts, sorcerers or demons who have been cursed, and when hunted and killed for body parts, bring good luck to others.

In Tanzania, people with albinism have been persecuted, killed and dismembered, and graves of albinos dug up and desecrated.

Such incidences are reported to be on the rise as the country gears towards the presidential and parliamentary elections in October.

Sacrifices of albinos during the time are thought by some to be a sure way of guaranteeing victory in the elections, with some using their body parts as good luck charms.

The residents in Ilula say it is not the first time they have reported such an incidenct.

They have however vowed to protect the children at all costs.
