Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru, who is eyeing the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat, has spoken on the recent drama witnessed when President Uhuru Kenyatta visited the County.
Speaking in reference to how her competitors, Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua and incumbent governor Joseph Ndathi were heckled and booed, Waiguru stated that it was an indication of her popularity in the region.
According to Waiguru, the actions by residents showed that she had gained advantage given that she was warmly received and cheered compared to the reception her competitors received.
“The warm reception I received from the people of Kirinyaga on Tuesday is evidence enough that they have confidence in me and my track record,” she stated.
During the visit, President Kenyatta was forced to temporarily cut short his speech as residents demanded to be addressed by Waiguru.
Cheers filled the air as she was being introduced by Deputy President William Ruto despite the two having engaged in verbal exchanges weeks ago.
On the other hand, Karua was shouted down by Jubilee supporters who demanded that she joins the Party forcing her to end her address.
In her never-say-die spirit, the 'iron lady' flashed two fingers - a symbol of the Narc-Kenya party- indicating that she would not be intimidated into joining Jubilee then surrendered the microphone to Ruto.
Governor Ndathi also received a share of the drama where he was humiliated and denied a chance to speak by residents who accused him of misappropriating public funds.
The three candidates are expected to square it out for the county's top job in the 2017 General Election with heated campaigns expected given that they are all supporting Kenyatta's re-election bid.
