There was tension in Busia County on Friday morning during the announcing of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) primaries provisional results after agents of Governor Sospeter Ojaamong' reportedly disrupted the tallying process.
The agents disputed the figures being announced arguing that the numbers were not conclusive since some polling stations had not submitted their results.
County returning officer, Retired Justice Joseph Juma, was interrupted by the two agents, as one attempted to snatch a copy of the provisional results he was holding in his hands.
On the other hand, Funyula Member of Parliament Paul Otuoma who is also eyeing the gubernatorial seat protested the delay of some result raising fear that they could be manipulated.
Supporters of the two leaders engaged in physical exchanges forcing the Administration Police officers to storm the tallying centre in order to restore calm.
Otuoma claimed that his rivals were planning to rig him out, but, maintained that he was confident of emerging victorious.
“By 9 pm Tuesday the officials had said 90 per cent of the results had been received and now 12 hours later they are nowhere to be seen. There was an attempt to try and subvert the will of the people of Busia but this has collapsed. Unless there is a miracle which now days are rare, the results would be contrary to what we have,” the Funyula MP said.
