Atwoli Asks Ruto to Respect Western Region Leaders

Deputy President William Ruto has been advised to borrow a leaf from former President Daniel Moi in terms of making his speeches.

Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli complained over what he termed "foul language" from the DP especially when addressing residents of the Western region.

He claimed that the DP on several occasions disrespected leaders from the opposition backyard including Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi and himself.

Atwoli particularly took issue with one case where he claimed the DP referred to Mudavadi as 'jamaa' (guy) - a reference that seemingly angered the COTU boss.

He urged Ruto to take a few lessons from the former President who he noted enjoyed a lot of respect from the Luhya community.

“Respect is the most important pillar in relationships and friendship,” he asserted.

This follows similar complaints from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) which accused Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta of insulting its leader Raila Odinga.

In a strongly worded message by its Chairman John Mbadi, the party observed that Kenyatta and Ruto had consistently and with no care insulted Mr Odinga, adding that the duo was "lighting a fire that they will not be able to extinguish".

“Unless they stop, Uhuru and Ruto will burn Kenya. If it comes to that, they will have no one but themselves to blame and they must be prepared to shoulder responsibility,” Mbadi said.

He noted that the prolonged verbal attacks had made it seem okay to insult Mr Odinga and the Opposition.
