A car that was transporting bhang was yesterday involved in an accident in Maungu area along Nairobi-Mombasa highway.
Police who rushed to the accident scene in a bid to rescue the victims, recovered the bags of bhang estimated to be worth Sh2.5 million.
10 sacks of bhang were recovered from the private car.
According to a Star report, thousands of rolls of bhang were stuffed in the boot, back seats, dashboard, and the spare tire of the vehicle.
Voi OCPD Joshua Lutukai confirmed that the vehicle, a Toyota Premio registration number KBP 465P had earlier been stopped by police on the highway, but it had tinted windows and they could not see the hidden consignment.
A driving license and some court fine receipts were allegedly recovered from the vehicle.
The vehicle’s wreckage was towed to the Voi police station as police continue hunting for the car’s driver.
