Nandi Hills MP Bernard Kitur has alleged that his life is in danger following his continued push to bring to book an organ transplant syndicate linked to a private hospital in Eldoret.

The hospital is suspected of carrying out illegal kidney transplants.

Speaking when he appeared before the National Assembly Health Committee on Thursday, June 5, to help in the inquiry, the MP claimed that the continued threats to his life happened as recently as Wednesday evening.

He revealed that this intimidation was coming from the hospital's officials, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and even local leaders.

On Wednesday evening, he claimed that his official vehicle was tracked and blocked near the Brookside area in Eldoret by DCI officers.

"It so happens that when I was getting this information, my security was compromised, even as late as yesterday evening," he stated.

"The intimidation was by the county police commandant of Uasin Gishu and the DCIO and his team. Yesterday at 11.30, my vehicle around Brookside was blocked by a DCI vehicle, and officers who were in that vehicle were one Osman Ndiema and a driver. They tracked my vehicle, and they cornered it around Brookside."

He added that although he was not in the vehicle, his official employees were in it and were heading back to his office after collecting crucial documents about the matter.

Kitur further claimed that the county commandant and the DCIO were acting under the instructions of a former legislator.

During the committee meeting, he narrated how he became cognisant of the matter, stating that he had received communication from two of the victims who had their kidneys removed after being lured with a huge payout.

He claimed that the two had their national identity cards taken away and were issued alien ID cards by the hospital that were used to alter their medical records.

Although one of the victims was promised Ksh1.2 million for the procedure, the MP stated he was only paid Ksh50,000 before the surgery and then Ksh400,000 after the surgery, with the rest not forthcoming.

However, he stated that the two victims have also received a lot of intimidation from various players, in a bid to stop them from testifying in the matter, including being bribed with money.

The international organ trafficking syndicate was exposed through a special investigation in April by Deutsche Welle, German media ZDF, and Der Spiegel, revealing that recipients pay up to $200,000 (Ksh25.9 million) for an organ transplant harvested from vulnerable Kenyans.
