The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has warned the public about a fake gazette notice that is circulating on social media, which claims that the IEBC has declared the winners of the by-elections scheduled for November, ahead of time.
The fake notice claimed the commission declared two candidates duly elected in the by-elections scheduled for November 27, 2025 as they were allegedly running unopposed.
It had claimed that the two United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party candidates had been duly elected as Members of the County Assembly for Tembelio and Metkei wards respectively.
In a statement, the IEBC clarified that it had not issued an official gazette notice declaring any candidates duly elected.
The commission urged Kenyans to verify all election-related information via its official website and social media platforms.
“The Gazette Notice circulating online titled “Declaration of No Contest for Members of Tembelio and Metkei Wards in the By-Elections scheduled for 27th November 2025” is fake.”
“The Commission advises the public to disregard it. Visit our website and verified social media accounts for accurate information,” the statement reads.
IEBC cautioned the public to be alert and help curb the spread of misinformation ahead of the planned by-elections.
According to the commission, only official communication from IEBC channels should be trusted, as it will be issued through official channels.
The commission previously announced that it had scheduled by-elections for the Baringo Senatorial race and six parliamentary seats in Banissa, Kasipul, Magarini, Malava, Mbeere North, and Ugunja constituencies on November 27.
Campaign Period
The IEBC had set the campaign period for the upcoming November 27 by-elections to run from October 8 to November 24.
It stated that campaign activities were allowed daily between 7am and 6pm across all electoral areas.
“The campaign period for purposes of the Thursday, 27th November 2025 by-elections shall commence on Wednesday, 8th October 2025, and cease on Monday, 24th November 2025, being 48 hours before the by-election day,” said Edung.
According to Edung, any campaigning outside the stipulated hours will be considered a violation of electoral regulations.
