Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has criticised Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa over their recent comments on the implementation of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report.
Speaking on Sunday, December 7, Wandayi accused the two of making misleading statements following remarks they made the day before at the funeral of the late Raila Odinga's younger sister, Beryl Odinga.
The CS levelled his sharpest criticism at Wamalwa, claiming the former Defence CS lacked the moral authority to question the report's implementation because he refused to sign it.
"On the last day, while signing the report, Wamalwa ran away and declined to sign the report. He hid somewhere in Kilimani," Wandayi stated.
He added that he needed to use the opportunity to correct the leaders, as he had missed the chance while in Bondo for the burial.
At Beryl Odinga's burial, Wamalwa emphasised that some of the things they fronted in the NADCO report had not yet been fulfilled, notably, justice for the victims of the unrest witnessed during the election period.
He further defended the government's ongoing efforts to compensate victims of election confrontations since 2017, arguing that Kalonzo had previously served in government during past periods of unrest and should therefore not dismiss the current initiative.
"When the government has gone a step further to establish a committee to undertake compensation of all victims of election clashes since 2017, he goes ahead and rubbishes that initiative," Wandayi stressed.
"The only honourable thing he can do is to allow the committee to complete its work despite the challenges it's facing in court," he continued.
Wandayi urged political leaders to remain truthful, arguing that honesty is essential to gaining public trust.
He added that recent political exchanges had, in his view, exposed who genuinely supports the Luo community as it charts its political path forward after the passing of former prime minister, late Raila Odinga.
"Now we know our true friends, and we know those who are against us as a community. We have decided we are going forward together," he concluded.
