IEBC Sets 10-Day Deadline for Lodging All Pre-Election Complaints Ahead of November By-Elections

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson Erastus Edung directed all complainants to submit their disputes to the commission by October 21.

In a Gazette Notice dated October 9, IEBC also announced that it will resolve any disputes relating to the November by-elections before November 2.

According to the notice, the commission will resolve the disputes within 10 days of lodging them at venues to be specified by the commission.

Edung clarified that disputes can be filed either in person at the Anniversary Towers or via email to info@iebc.or.ke or ppl@iebc.or.ke.

The Statutory Complaint Form can be found on the Commission’s website.

After filing a dispute, the commission will then contact the complainant through email or telephone to inform them of the hearing dates and venues.

"IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by Articles 88 (4) of the Constitution of Kenya, section 4 of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Act, 2011, Regulations 98 (1) and (2) of the Elections (General) Regulations, 2012 and Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure on Settlement of Disputes, the IEBC makes the following directives relating to the 27th November, 2025 By-Elections," Edung said.

During the upcoming by-elections, qualified aspirants will vie for elective posts across the county assembly, constituency, and senatorial levels.

Vacant Seats

Baringo is the only County that has a vacant senate seat, while vacant Member of Parliament seats include Banissa, Kasipul, Magarini, Malava, Mbeere North, and Ugunja Constituencies.

On the other hand, vacant Member of County Assembly (MCA) seats include Angata Nanyokie (Samburu), Chemundu (Nandi), Chewani (Tana River), Fafi (Garissa), and Kariobangi North Ward (Nairobi City).

Others are Kisa East Ward (Kakamega County), Metkei (Elgeyo Marakwet), Mumbuni North (Machakos), Purko Ward (Kajiado County), and Tembelio (Uasin Gishu).

In a statement on Thursday, October 9, the commission said that the campaigns for the by-elections would end on Monday, November 24, which is  48 hours before the by-election days.

Campaigns for vacancies in various elective posts will strictly run from 7am to 6pm, according to the commission.
