A Member of Parliament from the Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM-K) party has joined President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Charles Ngusya Nguna, the MP for Mwingi West made the switch on Friday during a State House visit.

Nguna was first elected in 2017 on the Democratic Party (DP) ticket and served his first term as MP until 2022. He was later re-elected as MP for Mwingi West on the Wiper Democratic Movement party ticket in August 2022 and served until 2025.

On October 10, after meeting Lower Eastern leaders at State House in Nairobi, President Ruto applauded Nguna for his bold decision to switch parties in order to promote development in his constituency.

“I specifically thank Mwingi West MP Charles Ngusya Nguna for Mwingi West for his bold move to join our team to push forward the development agenda in his constituency,” he said.

During the meeting, Nguna urged Mwingi West residents to get ready for Ruto’s events and development projects in the region.

“Tighten your belts! It’s going to be busy the next two weeks with President William Ruto,” Nguna said.

Cabinet Secretary for Labour Alfred Mutua was among other leaders who congratulated him for his decision, welcoming him to the ruling Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

“During the meeting, the President also welcomed Mwingi West MP, Hon. Charles Ngusya Nguna (CNN), a WIPER-elected legislator who has chosen to abandon the politics of stagnation in favour of politics of progress and development."

"We are greatly encouraged, because the lives of the people of Ukambani will continue to improve under President Ruto’s philosophy of inclusion, empowerment, and growth as opposed to the outdated rhetoric and divisive ideologies paradigm of Vomwe na Vayietwa and the idiotic and primitive phrase of Nja Ng’endu,” he said.

Gideon Moi Joins Ruto

This came days after Kenya African National Union (KANU) party boss Gideon Moi dropped out of the Baringo Senatorial by-election race.

The former Baringo senator revealed that he had withdrawn his candidacy on Thursday, a week after initially announcing his intention to join the race.

The announcement was confirmed by KANU Secretary General George Wainaina that the party would not field a candidate, arguably giving the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) a free run at the polls.
