The National Land Commission (NLC) has announced that it is in the process of deleting 18 land parcels from the acquisition list for two road projects.
In a gazette notice dated October 9, NLC Chairman, Gershom Otachi, said that the parcels were listed for acquisition for the construction of the Globe Round About Public Transport Terminal and upgrading of the Embakasi Slip Road to Bitumen Standard.
The deletion of the land parcels means that the government will no longer use those specific pieces of land for the planned road projects.
This usually happens if project designs have changed, or if ownership or compensation issues arose during the acquisition process.
Otachi announced that five parcels would be deleted for the Globe roundabout project. The land in question is owned by companies and community trustees. This will be done on behalf of the Nairobi County government.
"In pursuance of the Land Act, Part VIII, and further to Gazette Notice Nos. 5402 and 10279 of 2021, 207 and 15995 of 2022, the NLC on behalf of Nairobi City County Government gives notice that the National Government deletes the following parcels of land that were required for the Construction of Globe Roundabout Public Transport Terminal in Nairobi City County," the notice read.
The commission also plans to delete 13 land parcels intended for the upgrade of the Embakasi Slip Road. Otachi said that the parcels would be deleted on behalf of the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA).
He noted that anyone affected by this process must submit a written claim for compensation to NLC offices, along with supporting documents such as ID, proof of land ownership, and bank account details.
"In pursuance of sections 112 and 162 (2) of the Land Act, Part VIII and further to Gazette Notice No. 6416 of 2025, NLC on behalf of KURA, gives notice that the Government intends to delete the following parcels of land for upgrading Embakasi Slip Road to Bitumen Standard Nairobi Eastern By-pass in Nairobi County," the notice read.
The announcement comes two weeks after the commission said that it has deleted 66 land parcels with a combined area of approximately 24.45 hectares that were targeted for acquisition for the Illasit–Njukini–Taveta (Lot 32) Road Project.
According to Otachi, the deletion was made on behalf of KURA, which was overseeing the construction of the road project.
"In pursuance of the Land Act, 2012, Part VIII, and further to Gazette Notice No. 12300 of 2021, the National Land Commission on behalf of Kenya National Highways Authority gives notice that the National Government deletes the following parcels of land that were required for Construction of Illasit – Njukini – Taveta (Lot 32) Road Project in Taita Taveta County," NLC stated.
