Bishop Stops Fundraiser Over 'Dirty' Money

A Catholic Bishop in Murang'a County has canceled a fundraiser over allegations that those planning to attend have acquired wealth through corrupt means.

Bishop Maria Wainaina stopped the fundraiser, which was scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 27 at Kianguyi parish, as politicians were invited to grace the event.

Wainaina, who made the announcement at Kariani Catholic church, where more than 4000 men belonging to Catholic Men Association (CMA) were in attendance, reiterated that the church would not accept corrupt money.

He also warned politicians from the area to stop presenting offerings obtained through corrupt means to the church.

“The church should not be used as a money laundering institution where dirty money is prayed for,” lamented Bishop Wainaina.

The clergy man was reacting to a recent report that ranked Murang'a County as the most corrupt in the country. He also warned the residents that the vice had greatly affected the county.

The Bishop now wants the church and its members to help in fighting corruption, stating that the fight must begin with its members.
