On Saturday, August 2, a high-profile event unfolded in Kapseret as the children of the Immigration Principal Secretary, Belio Kipsang, and billionaire David Langat held a dowry ceremony.
Politicians and businesspeople alike joined Brian Belio's family in presenting a dowry to Nicole Langat's family in a ceremony meant to symbolise respect and gratitude, termed Tumdoab Kanyiook.
The couple was dressed in tan colours, with the groom-to-be in a suit and the bride-to-be in a strapless bodycon dress and a cowhide-pattern cape.
As for the fathers, PS Kipsang wore a light grey suit, while Langat was wearing a navy blue suit.
Among those who attended the nuptials was Kapseret Member of Parliament (MP) Oscar Sudi, who shared photos at the event with several guests at the event, including the couple.
"Wishing Brian and Nicole a lifetime of love, happiness, and togetherness as they embark on this new journey together! Congratulations to the families," Sudi wrote.
Newly hitched Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang also graced the ceremony, congratulating the couple on their love and wishing them a long, happy marriage.
"Joined family and friends for the traditional dowry ceremony of Brian Belio and Nicole Lang’at," Chesang stated on social media.
"A beautiful celebration of culture, love, and unity, Tumdoab kanyiook! Wishing the lovely couple a lifetime of blessings and happiness together."
Due to the prominent nature of the couple, images of the ceremony quickly made rounds on social media, eliciting mixed reactions from Kenyans.
Among the reactions were Kenyans congratulating the couple, while others marvelled at the high-profile nature of the event, with the rich marrying the rich.
Others, however, fixated on the camels spotted at the event, wondering whether that was a common occurrence in the Kalenjin community.
