KWS to Introduce Bus Shuttle Services in Three National Parks During the Festive Season

The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has announced the introduction of bus shuttle services in three national parks, which will operate during the festive season.

In a statement on Tuesday, November 16, the service noted that the bus services will start operating on Saturday, December 20, in a bid to offer convenient ways to visit the parks.

KWS said the buses will be deployed at Nairobi National Park, Aberdare National Park and Lake Nakuru National Park.

According to the service, buses at Nairobi National Park will run two trips daily between 9am and 2pm, with pick-up points at Nagol Ivory Park and the park’s main gate.

Adult  Kenyan citizens and those from the East African community, will be required to pay Ksh 1,500 for the services and Ksh 750 for children, while Adult residents, who are non-Kenyans and non-EAC nationals, will be required to pay Ksh 2000, and Ksh 1000 for children.

For the Aberdare National Park, adult citizens/ EAC will pay Ksh 1000 and Ksh750 for children, while residents will pay Ksh 1,500 and Ksh 1000 for children.

It also indicated that the buses will operate one daily trip and will depart at 9 am from the Nyeri Post Office.

Shuttles at the Lake Nakuru National Park will have two daily trips at 9am and 2pm with fares of Ksh 1,750 for adult citizens/EAC and Ksh 850 for children, while residents will pay Ksh 2,000 for adults and Ksh 1,000 for children. The pick-up point will be at the Railways near the police station.

The shuttle services, which mainly run during the weekends and public holidays, allow tourists to access game drives without needing to use their own vehicles.

"Starting this weekend, 20th December, we’re bringing back the bus shuttle service on weekends and public holidays only through the festive season as part of the Jiachilie in Kenya Parks holiday campaign," KWS stated.

"Explore our parks with ease at: Nairobi National Park,  Aberdare National Park,  Lake Nakuru National Park. Affordable, convenient, and perfect for family adventures this holiday season," it added.

This comes a day after the government announced that it will reinforce surveillance on major transport corridors, in a bid to ensure safety during the festive season.
