British Rancher Tristan Voorspuy Shot Dead in Laikipia

A wealthy British rancher was shot dead on Sunday at a private ranch in the volatile Laikipia area.

Tristan Voorspuy was shot dead by invaders at his Sosian Ranch where he had gone to assess a damage caused in a previous attack.

The rancher, who is a former British soldier, flew in from Tanzania on Saturday after his ranch was attacked on Friday.

At around midday on Sunday, he decided to visit one of the three houses that were burned down.

He rode there on horseback in the morning but staffers at the farm lost contact with him at noon.

A helicopter flying overhead saw a horse that had been shot dead at 2pm. Later, a tracker from the conservancy found his body nearby.

However, his body has not yet been recovered due to the insecurity in the vicinity.

A heavily armed militia comprised of Pokots and Samburus is said to be holed up on the hillside above the house where he was shot dead.

The Sosian Ranch had been a popular holiday spot for the British Royal family.
