Cecily Kariuki Warns Embu Leaders Against Disrupting Uhuru's Event

Security agents have received intelligence reports on a plan to cause chaos during President Uhuru Kenyatta's visit to Embu County on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Youth and Gender Cabinet Secretary Cecily Kariuki disclosed that some leaders in the area had hired youth to heckle their opponents in Kenyatta’s presence and in the process cause a fracas.

The CS urged the local dealers to put their differences aside and welcome the Head of State, warning that any attempt to disrupt Uhuru's tour would be dealt with accordingly.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, a source on the ground confirmed the alleged plot revealing that there were two warring Jubilee camps in Embu - that of Runyenjes Member of Parliment (MP) Cecily Mbarire and Senator Lenny Kivuti, who are both eyeing the Governor’s seat.

According to the source who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the Senator Kivuti led camp had hired goons to heckle their opponents once they're given a chance to address the residents.

MP Mbarire and Senator Kivuti, who are both seeking the Jubilee ticket in the gubernatorial race, have clashed in the recent past.  In 2016, the two nearly engaged in a fist fight during a fundraiser before the organisers intervened and restored order.

Meanwhile, the President will be in Embu to mobilise youth to register in large numbers as he seeks a second term in Office. On Tuesday, Kenyatta was in Garissa and Kirinyaga Counties in his ongoing voter registration campaign.
