CID Officers Swept by floods

Three officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) were Tuesday swept by floods while heading to a peace meeting at Illeret area, Marsabit County.

The incident occurred after River Balal broke its banks following heavy rains, washing away the vehicle the three were traveling in.

Two of the officers were rescued and were rushed to Marsabit Hospital for treatment, while one is reported missing.

Marsabit Central OCPD Mark Wanjala confirmed the incident that occured in North Horr Constituency, saying that the rescued detectives were in stable condition.

"We have poor communication network on the ground but rescue operation for drowned officer is ongoing since Tuesday night," he said.

Heavy rains continue to wreck havoc in various regions across the country, with Kwale County recently appealing for help after hundreds of families in five villages were cut off by floods, leaving them without health services, food, and clean water

The raging floods in the area submerged over 25,000 acres of land under farming and in the process destroyed several houses. Kenya Red Cross County Manager, Soud Tenga, warned residents that the situation could get worse as the country headed into the long rains season.
