Clear your Name on Extortion Claims - Jubilee Tell Raila

A section of Jubilee leaders led by National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale and head of Jubilee secretariat Raphael Tuju now want ODM leader Raila Odinga to clear his name over extortion claims made by Dominion CEO, Mr Calvin Burgess.

Addressing the press on Sunday, Duale stated that they had written to Mr Burgess to appear in parliament so that he can give evidence to his allegations.

The Garissa Township MP said that Odinga would be investigated if the claims by the US investor in Kenya were true, asking the Director of Criminal Investigations offices to do speedy investigations on the matter.

“I’m challenging Raila to call a press conference and tell us what his role in this Dominion Farm scandal is.

“We want immediate action... Mr Burgess must appear before the parliamentary lands committee and he will be accorded all the necessary privileges so that he can give evidence in camera,” Duale stated.

Mr Tuju, who is the head of Jubilee secretariat, said the ruling coalition was not involved in the matter but the claims were grave and could scare away investors from Nyanza region in future.

Last week on Wednesday, Mr Burgess claimed that he had received extortion and eviction threats from Odinga and other politicians from Nyanza after he declined to fund the Orange party.

”Raila began demanding for me to support him politically with large sums of money. I explained that the US law called "The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act" did not allow me to do this and would result in the end of the farm, my imprisonment and a $2 million (Sh207 million) fine in the US," the Dominion CEO claimed.

Mr Burgess further asked for security from the government alleging that goons had been hired to beat him up and frustrate his business.

However, a section of ODM leaders have dismissed the allegations claiming that the Dominion CEO, who is the largest agriculture investor in Nyanza, was being used by Jubilee to tarnish Raila's name.
