Cliff Ombeta Asks Court to Summon Boinnet Over Extradition of Akasha Brothers

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has landed in trouble following the extradition of the notorious drug barons, Ibrahim and Bakthash Akasha.

Nairobi Lawyer Cliff Ombeta has served the IG with a court order demanding he appears before the court to explain why he sent the Akasha brothers to the US.

Mr Ombeta noted that it was illegal for Boinnet to allow the extradition of the two to the US as a court order had banned the move.

"The order still exists and cannot be wished away hence the DPP Keriako Tobiko and IG Joseph Boinnet should come to court and explain the issue of jurisdiction. The order was specifically addressed to the IG Boinnet after he took one of the suspects to Nairobi without court authorization," Ombeta said.

The case has been marred with a lot of controversies as the brother first went missing while in Mombasa and the police denied having any hand in the disappearance.

Later on, they were arraigned in court and finally sent to the US where they face drug trafficking and ivory smuggling charges.

The Akashas were arrested alongside Ghulam Hussein and Indian national Vijaygiri Goswami.
