CORD to Demonstrate from January 2017

The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) has announced its next move after amendments to the negotiated electoral laws were passed in the National Assembly.

Speaking during a press conference on Thursday, Wiper leader and CORD co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka declared that the coalition would begin mass action to protest against the proposed laws which are set to allow the IEBC to use a manual voter identification system.

Musyoka stated the Opposition had been pushed to the wall and was ready for strict action against the government given that the amendments were passed by a majority of Jubilee lawmakers only.

The Coalition stated that it would rally all Kenyans to exercise their democratic rights by participating in peaceful protests beginning January 4, 2017.

At the same time, ODM leader Raila Odinga stated that it was time to liberate the country from the Jubilee regime maintaining that the passed regulations were aimed at rigging the upcoming polls.

Earlier in the day, CORD MPs walked out of a special sitting called by Speaker Justin Muturi to discuss the controversial laws accusing their Jubilee counterparts of assaulting and intimidating them.

The legislators marched through the streets of Nairobi to Milimani High Court where they followed proceedings of a case the Coalition had filed to have the court declare the amendments made null and void.

Giving his ruling on the matter, High Court judge George Odunga declined to give the order stating that he had already written his ruling before the amendments were passed.
